Watercolor Class With Alan James

Starts: 6 Thursdays 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23, 5/30 2019 @ 10am

Jerrys is proud to host this six week course that will cover the fundamental techniques that make it possible to create a successful watercolor painting. A new painting will be created each week with focus on simple subject matter such as landscapes, seascapes, and still life.

The class will cover:
- Basic composition
- Application of washes, wet in wet, glazing, and dry brush techniques.
- How to exploit the natural flow of water and discover the secrets that make it work its magic like no other medium can!
- How to let the water guide you while overcoming the urge to control every brush stroke
- The meaning of less is more

Sketchbook Journal Workshop with Alexandra Walters

Starts: Saturday, June 1st, 2019 10am - 4pm

Regardless of experience level, one of the most enjoyable and useful activities we can engage in is creative work in sketchbooks. Benefits include skill building, working out compositions and creative ideas, and recording our personal experiences. In addition to enhancing studio work, it is a convenient way to continue making art anywhere we go.

10 a.m. - noon: Presentation of the full selection of Stillman and Birn sketchbooks. Alexandra will speak about the benefits of keeping a sketchbook, and demonstrate drawing and painting using several media.

Noon - 1:00 p.m.: Break for lunch (recommended that students bring bag lunch). Attendees will also have time to go up into the store and purchase additional supplies.

1:00-4:00: Working time: Alexandra will spend time with every artist, working in any media of their choice. A selection of items will be available to draw, or bring your own photo.

Drawing Fundamentals with Derek Leka

Starts: Saturday, June 8th, 2019 10am - 4pm

This workshop will focus on composition, value, contrast, texture, and shading. We will use objects of various complexities and surfaces along with the room itself as a model. You will move through guided exercises accompanied by critiques at various transition points throughout the day. The final hour will be spent using soft direct lighting to emphasize light and shadow. All will be done with pencil. Your drawing, observational skills, and Artist's eye will be transformed!

Join us for this one of a kind workshop where you will expand your color sense and painting ideas. In this fun and unique environment. You will repeatedly assemble one of a kind color palettes as inspired by carefully chosen music that I will present throughout the day. Your colors will then be combined with shapes and patterns in an expressive and experimental style. We will work rapidly moving through multiple pieces of music followed always by brief group discussions on the work.

Color: The Color of Summer

This is a seasonal workshop exploring the unique color of the summer landscape which screams of saturated pure hues! Inspiration will come from nature including; ripe fruits, flowers, trees, insects, blue skies, intense sunsets, dreamy Van Gogh-like midnight scenes, and pastel dawns. This color scheme will introduce you to new pigments which will expand the colors you use on your day to day palette back in your studio practice. This will be an eye opening experience of discovery and expression. We will work inside from photos.
