Six-Week Beginner/Intermediate Workshop With Alan James

In this beginner / intermediate course we will uncover all of the secrets that have been eluding you all these years! By the end of this course, you will be transformed from a once frustrated individual, to a happy-go-lucky watercolor artist. Yay!

Secrets we will uncover:
-Understanding of composition: Design, Values, Shapes. Edges and Color
-The secrets of applying washes, wet in wet, glazing and dry brush techniques.
-The importance of water to pigment ratios!
- Perspective and Proportion.
- Building a vocabulary of brushstrokes to help create shapes that make up: Figures, Trees, Skies and much more.
-How to exploit the natural flow of water and discover the secrets that make it work its magic like no other medium can and learn to let the water guide you while overcoming the urge to control every brushstroke.
-The meaning of less is more!

We will create a new painting each week and concentrate on simple subject matter, primarily: landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. Please come prepared with the artist grade materials listed in the materials list. Some art experience is helpful, but not a requirement. For new watercolorists, Alan James is willing to give a primer lesson that covers the basics of watercolor, before classes begin. Classes are held in our newly renovated downstairs classroom/gallery area next door. All minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult that must remain present for the entirety of the workshop/class. An onsite waiting room is available.

About Alan James

Alan James is a highly respected award winning watercolor artist and teacher. His art graces the walls of many private and corporate collectors worldwide.

Alan is the East Coast America host of the TV show Colour In Your Life, and currently teaches watercolors , at his studio in Deep River, CT, Jerry's Artarama, The North East Connecticut Art Guild, and at the historic Lyme Art Association, the birth place of American impressionism. Beginning in August of 2022, Alan's online School of Watercolor became operational offering four comprehensive courses.
