Drawing clothing - In Person Workshop With Derek Leka

This drawing workshop will focus on clothing, folds, textures, patterns, and lighting. You will draw straight to full strength color using colored pencils. We will look at cloth draped over objects paying attention to compression, wrinkles, fabric sags, and to its movement in relation to the object underneath. I will have a variety of colored, and patterned fabrics for us to work from, as well as high key lighting, low light, and colored light.

Material list

18” x 24” drawing board

18” x 24” drawing pad Canson XL is fine

pencil sharpener

Colored pencil set at least 24

a medium to large cheap brush like a house paint brush to sweep off sharpening shavings and dust. (something you already have in the house)

We may or may not use it . . . Have a smartphone, ipad, or laptop - fully charged - and a charger.

About Derek Leka

Derek Leka MFA, BFA is an artist, author, and musician from Connecticut. Derek has been teaching for 18 years and has taught in many colleges and universities throughout Ct and NY including Purchase College, Mercy College, and the University of Bridgeport to name a few. Derek had appeared as a visiting lecturer at many top schools throughout New England including Yale, RiSD, Cornell, MassArt, and Boston College.
