Watercolor + Illustration With Marika Hahn - An Online Workshop (Evening Session)

Starts: Wednesday, January 6th, 2021 — 6:00pm
Ends: 9:00pm
Where: Zoom Online Workshop

This Watercolor Workshop, using watercolor inks, is designed for adults with varied artistic abilities, everyone is welcome. Inks are transparent and colors are easy to mix and flow beautifully. Participants preferring to use watercolor in tubes are welcome to use their preferred medium.

Each week will have a theme, an inspiration. I will start each class with a demonstration showing specific techniques needed to accomplish completed paintings. Wet on Wet, Wet on Dry, Layering/Glazing and Brush Stroke Techniques are part of building your skills. The class approaches watercolor using graphic illustration with an emphasis on composition and cropping.

The process of watercolor painting will be a source of relaxation, expanded creativity and FUN! Before each class I will send pdf’s of the images I will be working on in class. If participants can print these, to reference in class, it will be helpful but not required.

The SERIES (4 classes) Wednesdays 6-9 PM January 6, 13, 20 and 27

VEGGIES: January 6- Most veggies and fruits are simple shapes useful for practicing wet on wet and other fundamentals of watercolor. In this class we’ll work on veggies with amazing leaves…RADICCHIO and ENDIVE and interesting shapes with tight detail.… ASPARAGUS.

FRUITS: January 13- Creating an interesting composition with fruits growing on branches, we’ll focus on APPLES or NECTARINES. We’ll also paint the cross section of a fruit, either painting the half the fruit with its delicate seeds or pit. Decorative hand done type will be added.

I’ll show how to create feather patterns without resist. Choose one or two references for paintings. I’ll send separate references of birds and flowers: Echinacea, Clematis, Anemone and Cattails. Participants will choose the bird and flower they want to paint. Figuring out how to combine the bird and flowering in a pleasing composition will be fun. This class yields wonderful illustrations and there is so much learned.
